How to Select the Right Grade

Grade selection is usually driven by the service medium rather than by mechanical strength alone:

• Gr1 — highest formability and ductility. Suited to deep drawing, complex forming and light corrosive duty.
• Gr2 — the most widely used commercial pure grade. Balanced corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, and the default choice for chemical process equipment, heat exchanger tube sheets and vessel linings.
• Gr3 / Gr4 — higher strength commercial pure grades for pressure-bearing components where forming requirements are moderate.
• Gr5 (TC4 / Ti-6Al-4V) — aerospace-grade alloy, roughly twice the strength of Gr2. Selected where high specific strength matters, and for medical implant applications in ELI form (Gr23).
• Gr7 — palladium-bearing grade with markedly improved resistance to reducing acids and crevice corrosion.
• Gr12 — molybdenum-nickel grade with excellent resistance to hot chloride and high-temperature brine; common in seawater and concentrated salt service.

Manufacturing Route and Surface Finish

Plate is produced from vacuum-melted ingot, forged and then hot rolled to the required thickness, followed by annealing, levelling and surface treatment. Thin gauges below roughly 4 mm are normally cold rolled and annealed to achieve flatness and surface quality. We supply pickled, sandblasted, ground or polished finishes, and can hold tighter flatness or thickness tolerances than the standard where the application requires it.

Stock, Lead Time and Packaging

We hold 300 tonnes of Titanium Plate in stock at Baoji, covering common grades and thicknesses in standard widths. Holding stock allows us to quote against today's material position rather than against a future production slot, and to ship stock sizes in as little as 3–5 days. Cut-to-size, non-standard widths and special tolerances are normally 15–30 days.

Plate is packed on fumigated wooden pallets or in export-grade wooden crates, with interleaving paper or film between sheets, edge protection and full seaworthy wrapping. Surface protection matters — a scratched sealing or cladding face is a common cause of rejection on arrival.

What is the minimum order quantity?
From a single sheet. We accept sample orders and small-batch orders, which is often the practical way to qualify a new supplier before committing to a full project quantity.

Can you cut plate to size?
Yes. We cut to your drawing by plasma, waterjet or shearing depending on thickness and edge quality required, and can supply machined or bevelled edges.

What thickness can you supply from stock?
Common stock thicknesses run from 0.5 mm to 60 mm in Gr2 and Gr5, subject to availability at the time of enquiry. Send us your required grade and thickness and we will confirm current stock.

Do you supply material certificates?
EN 10204 3.1 is supplied as standard with heat-number traceability. EN 10204 3.2 with third-party witness can be arranged where the project specification requires it.

Can you supply plate to a non-Chinese standard?
Yes. We routinely supply to ASTM, ASME, AMS, DIN and JIS requirements. Where a project calls for dual certification, we will confirm the applicable clauses before production.
