Product Overview

Nickel Sheet with MTC EN 10204 3.1 | ASTM B162 N02200 / N02201, Heat-Traceable, Caustic & Thermal Duty

Meta Description: Nickel sheet to ASTM B162, supplied with EN 10204 3.1 MTC — heat-specific chemistry and mechanical test results, not a generic grade certificate. N02200 (≤315°C) and N02201 (>315°C, C≤0.02%) annealed sheet, PMI per lot, cut-to-size with full marking transfer. Heat number = tag = certificate.

What "MTC EN 10204 3.1" Actually Means Here

A real 3.1 is not a compliance slogan. Per EN 10204, Type 3.1 means:

  • Tests performed on the specific heat/lot delivered — not a sibling coil, not a "typical value"
  • Chemical analysis (ladle/sample from same heat) + tensile/yield/elongation from the actual lot
  • Issued by the manufacturer's authorized inspection representative, independent of the production department
  • Heat number on the certificate matches the physical stamp/tag on the sheet
  • Cut pieces keep traceability via controlled marking transfer (original heat No. carried to sub-tags)

3.1 answers one question an inspector cares about: "Does the paper prove THIS piece, from THIS heat?" If the heat number doesn't match the stamp, the certificate is decoration.

Grade Choice — Temperature Decides, Not Price

Grade UNS Carbon Service ceiling When to specify
Nickel 200 sheet N02200 ≤0.15% ≤315°C Caustic ≤315°C, forming blanks, electronic/conductive parts
Nickel 201 sheet N02201 ≤0.02% up to ~600°C (oxidation-limited) Hot caustic evaporator, >315°C duty, welded hot structures

Graphitization is silent: above 315°C, 200's carbon precipitates at grain boundaries, ductility collapses with no surface warning. 201 removes the carbon headroom — that is the only reason it exists. Certificate carbon value is the proof, not the tag text.

Standard & Equivalence (no "mystery pure nickel")

  • ASTM B162 / ASME SB-162 (plate, sheet, strip)
  • UNS N02200 / N02201; W.Nr. 2.4066 / 2.4068
  • GB/T 2054 N6 (≈200) / N4 (≈201) — dual designation printed on MTC
  • Ni ≥99.0% (mill typical 99.5%+), annealed default

Stock Window (typical)

What the 3.1 MTC Carries (checklist inspectors use)

  1. PO / line-item / product form / grade / UNS
  2. Heat number + lot ID (matches physical stamp)
  3. Actual chemistry (not just limits) — carbon called out explicitly
  4. Tensile / yield / elongation (size-correct condition)
  5. Heat-treatment state (annealed, temp/cooling if project-required)
  6. Dimensions + tolerance basis (ASTM B162 / GB/T 2054)
  7. Standard + edition year
  8. Authorized QA signature / electronic approval
  9. Cut-piece marking-transfer record (heat No. carried to sub-tags)

PMI & Verification

  • OES/PMI per lot — confirms N02200 vs N02201 vs Alloy 400 at element level (carbon via OES)
  • XRF alone misses carbon — low-carbon claim needs OES or MTC ladle analysis
  • Incoming PMI at stockist bay, not only at the original mill
  • 3.2 (SGS / BV / TÜV / LR) TPI appointed at PO stage — not retro-upgraded after production

Cut-To-Size Without Breaking Traceability

  1. Confirm parent heat → lock MTC
  2. Shear / laser / waterjet cut
  3. Deburr + clean edge
  4. Re-tag every sub-piece with original heat No. + "part of heat XXX"
  5. Photograph original marking before cutting (internal record)
  6. Bundle cert PDF + sub-tag map in dispatch dossier

Zero-cut changes dimensions only. Grade, heat, annealing state stay identical to parent coil/plate.

Where It Runs

  • Caustic evaporator shells, alkali storage tank liners
  • Chlor-alkali cell covers / cathode substrates
  • Battery tabs, fuel-cell strips, thermocouple shields
  • Heat-treat trays, muffle liners, furnace baffles (201 for hot zone)
  • Food/pharma alkaline-cleaning equipment
  • Electronics shielding, conductive springs, plating rolls

Real Boundaries (no overclaim)

  • Not for conc. HNO₃ / wet chlorine excursion → alloy review
  • Stagnant seawater → design review; flowing seawater OK
  • High-temp sulfur atmosphere → Ni-sulfide risk, excluded
  • 3.1 ≠ 3.2: independent TPI must be named at PO for nuclear/offshore/PED Class
  • "We can issue any cert" = red flag. Real 3.1 ties to real melt records.

FAQ — Nickel Sheet with EN 10204 3.1

Q1: Is 3.1 the same as "a mill certificate"?
A: Not automatically. A real 3.1 is heat-specific, signed by an independent QA rep, and the heat number matches the physical mark. A generic "test report" without heat traceability is not 3.1.

Q2: How do I know it's really 201, not 200 relabeled?
A: MTC carbon ≤0.02% + OES PMI on carbon. Anything above 0.02% C is not N02201, regardless of tag.

Q3: Do cut blanks keep the 3.1?
A: Yes — via marking transfer. Original heat No. travels to sub-tags; cert package includes the tag-map.

Q4: Can you upgrade 3.1 to 3.2 later?
A: Don't assume. 3.2 needs TPI appointed before/witnessing production. Retro "intent-of-3.2" is not the same. Name it at PO.

Q5: Thin strip vs sheet?
A: ≤0.3mm strip handled as coil/ribbon; 0.3-6mm = sheet; >6mm = plate route. All B162 family.

Q6: Welding filler for formed sheet parts?
A: ERNi-1 / ENi-1; WPS per ASME IX F-No.41. No stainless filler.

Q7: What if heat number is missing on arrival?
A: Stop. No heat mark = no traceability = reject until supplier reconciles. That is the whole point of 3.1.

Q8: HS code?
A: Nickel flat product base 7506.20 band — Broker confirms by destination (not tube/bar code).

Q9: Small maintenance qty OK?
A: Yes — one blank or short sheet handled, heat-traceable, not ton-only.

Q10: Biggest buyer mistake?
A: Writing "nickel sheet, certificate required" without naming EN 10204 3.1 + heat number + UNS. Vague PO = vague paper. Inspectors reject vague.
