Overview — A Hex Bar Is Bought by "Across Flats", Not Diameter

First thing procurement gets wrong: quoting a hex bar by "Φ". Hex stock is specified by Across Flats (AF / SW) — the distance between two parallel flat sides. Get AF wrong and the nut doesn't index, the wrench slips, the bar feeder jams.

We keep Gr2/TA2 and Gr5/TC4 hexagon bar in rotating stock out of Baoji Titanium Valley. Cold-drawn for small/mid AF (clean flat, tight tolerance, straight), hot-rolled/forged for large AF. Annealed default — stress-relieved so it stays straight after heavy CNC removal.

Why Hex Blank Instead of Milling From Round

• Less chip, less scrap: pre-formed hex skips the hex-milling op — titanium at $30+/kg, scrap is real money
• Faster cycle: Swiss/CNC lathe clamps the flat, turns thread/shank in one chuck
• Better grain at corners: cold-drawn grain flow follows the flat → torque resistance on final fastener
• Wrench-ready geometry: nut/bolt head already shaped; only thread + chamfer left
• Stable clamping: flat sides = no roll-out in collet, lower runout

Stock Scope (Honest)

Honest boundary: cold-drawn h11/h9 dominates SW6–30; SW40+ usually rolled/forged + peeled. Large AF lead stated before PI — no "magic shelf".

Q1: Quote by diameter or AF?
A: Always AF (across flats). If you only have "Φ", tell us — we convert, but the PO must show SW to avoid a wrong die.

Q2: h11 cold-drawn ready for Swiss lathe?
A: Yes for common SW6–30. Straightness ≤0.5–1mm/m, deburred/chamfered ends, feeder-compatible. Confirm collet size before shipment.

Q3: Gr2 or Gr5 for my nut?
A: Seawater/corrosion + cost → Gr2. High preload/aero/auto → Gr5. Don't pay TC4 price for a static marine nut.

Q4: Can you cold-head Gr5 hex?
A: Annealed Gr5 heads with controlled O; STA not for cold-heading. Heading trial = same-heat sample first.

Q5: Large AF like SW50–80?
A: Rolled/forged + peeled; not cold-drawn tolerance class. Lead quoted honest, not "shelf h11".

Q6: MTC after cutting still valid?
A: Yes — 3.1 ties cut pieces to parent heat; AF gauge report on request.

Q7: STA hex blank?
A: PO-stated heat treat, heat-confirm. Annealed is default for machining/heading.

Q8: Implant hex fastener?
A: Industrial Gr5 ≠ implant. Implant path = Gr23 ELI + F136 chain, separate PO, DMR docs.

Q9: Dispatch?
