What this plate is used for

The point of cutting to size is not just to save material, though that matters. It is to remove the work that does not belong in your shop: handling a full sheet, setting up a cutting run for one outline, dealing with offcuts, and trying to hold tight tolerances on a piece that has already moved out of flat. Sending the drawing to us and receiving a marked, leveled blank changes the amount of work left on your side.

Waterjet is the usual method for titanium because it cuts without a heat-affected zone and holds a clean edge. Laser, sawing and shearing are used where the thickness and geometry suit them. The method is selected against the drawing rather than applied by default, because the wrong process can harden the edge or distort thin material.

Traceability does not stop at the cut. Even after a plate is divided into several pieces, each piece keeps a link to the original heat and lot number and to the MTC issued for that heat. That continuity is what lets the material pass inspection after it has been cut into finished shapes.

How to choose the right plate

Send the finished shape, not just the raw dimensions. A dimensioned sketch, DXF, DWG or STEP file tells us the outline, hole positions, edge preparation and any marking you need. The more of that is defined up front, the fewer assumptions go into the quote and the less correction work later.

Specify the tolerance that actually matters. Holding a very tight tolerance on a dimension that will be machined again afterwards adds cost without value. Tell us which faces or edges are final and which will be re-cut, and the cutting method can be chosen accordingly.

Reserve material before cutting. Once a heat number is allocated to your order, the plate is set aside and the MTC is linked to your pieces. This avoids the situation where stock moves in the meantime and a different heat has to be substituted after the drawing has been approved.
