Overview

What this plate is used for

Gr2 (TA2) is commercially pure titanium with roughly 99% titanium content. It is the workhorse grade for corrosion resistance rather than load-bearing, and the one most often specified for plate and sheet work. The material forms well, welds cleanly, and does not suffer the pitting that limits stainless steel in chloride service.

Plate is supplied in thicknesses from 0.5mm sheet up to 50mm medium and heavy plate, in either cold-rolled or hot-rolled condition. Surface is typically pickled to remove the oxide scale, or left bright for applications where appearance and surface condition matter. Width and length are supplied as standard mill sheets or cut to your required dimensions.

Every plate carries a heat and lot number that matches the material test certificate issued with the order. That traceability is the part buyers rely on during customs clearance, customer inspection, and warranty reviews, so it is treated as part of the product rather than an optional extra.

How to choose the right plate

Start with the working medium. If the part sits in seawater, salt spray, chloride, or weak acid — and is not carrying significant structural load — Gr2 is normally the correct answer. Moving up to TC4 adds strength and cost that most corrosion-only jobs do not need.

Think about fabrication before material. Gr2 bends, rolls and welds more easily than the alloy grades, so if the part has to be formed into a cylinder, cone or lined tank, staying with pure titanium keeps the fabrication straightforward. We can arrange cutting and edge prep so the plate arrives closer to the finished shape.

Confirm the standard with your end customer. Gr2 and TA2 are chemically close but one is an ASTM designation and the other a Chinese GB designation. Tell us which standard your project calls for and we supply against it, with the matching documentation.
