Titanium Flange with RT Test Report | ASTM B381 Gr2/Gr5, Weld Radiography + UT/PT, EN 10204 3.1

Meta Description: Titanium Flanges with RT test report — ASTM B381 Gr2/Gr5/Gr7 forged, ASME B16.5, weld radiography per ASME Section V, UT on forging + PT on face default, RT on specified welds. Titanium/aluminium IQI, RT report bundled with EN 10204 3.1.

RT on a Flange — What It Actually Covers

A common mistake: "send RT report for the flange" — but a forged flange body is not a weld. Correct scope:

  • Forging body → UT (volumetric) + PT (surface) is the standard route
  • Welded joints (nozzle-to-shell, flange-to-pipe shop weld, repair weld) → RT or UT per ITP
  • RT report covers the weld seam, not the whole forged disc
  • RT + UT are complementary: RT sees volumetric defects (porosity/slag), UT sees tight cracks/orientation

So "flange with RT" = RT on the declared weld, UT on the forging, PT on machined faces — packaged as one NDE dossier.

When RT Is Required (not by default on every flange)

  • Nozzle attachment weld on pressure vessel (per EN 13445-11 / ASME VIII ITP)
  • Shop-welded flange-to-pipe or flange-to-stub permanent joint
  • Repair weld after forging/processing defect removal
  • Class/code project mandates RT% in ITP (Group 1 = 100% RT/UT + PT)
  • Third-party (SGS/BV/TÜV/DNV) witness point at RT

If no weld and no ITP clause → UT+PT+3.1 is the honest default. We don't pad a fake "full-flange RT" line.

RT Technique for Titanium (the detail auditors check)

  • Per ASME Section V Art.2 / ASTM E94 / E1742 (as specified)
  • X-ray source; sensitivity target per code (e.g. 2-2T wire IQI where applicable)
  • Titanium or aluminium Image Quality Indicator (IQI) — not steel IQI (Ti absorbs less, steel IQI lies)
  • Argon-shielded weld zone colour acceptance: silver/straw pass; blue/purple/grey reject
  • Film or CR/DR digital; DICONDE/PDF film + readable IQI value on report
  • Acceptance level: ASME B31.3 / EN 13445-5 Table 8.6 / client ITP

NDE Dossier Shipped With the Flange

  1. EN 10204 3.1 MTC — heat chemistry + tensile, QA-signed
  2. UT report — forging volumetric, ASNT Level II, technique + calibration block
  3. PT report — machined face, colour coupon reference
  4. RT report (where PO-scoped): seam ID, % covered, IQI type, sensitivity, film/CR ref, accept/reject
  5. Weld map / heat linkage (if shop weld included)
  6. 3.2 countersign by TPI if PO-fronted

Default vs PO-Scoped NDE

Item Default (every flange) PO-add (write in RFQ)
Forging UT Yes 100% volumetric, recorded
Face PT Yes Level II dye, accept level stated
RT on weld Only if welded in shop % / 100% / IQI type / accept level
Hydro test No (flange only) 1.5×design, 10-min hold (vessel scope)
3.2 TPI No SGS/BV/TÜV/DNV witness at RT

FAQ — Titanium Flange with RT Test Report

Q1: Do you RT the whole forged flange?
A: No — forging body uses UT+PT. RT applies to welded seams (nozzle/shop weld/repair), per ITP.

Q2: Can RT replace UT?
A: Not ideally. RT catches porosity/slag; UT catches tight cracks/orientation. Critical joints often run both.

Q3: Why titanium IQI, not steel?
A: Ti X-ray absorption is lower than steel; steel IQI overstates sensitivity. Ti/Al IQI gives true image quality.

Q4: Is RT report part of MTC 3.1?
A: Separate NDE attachment bundled with 3.1 in the cert dossier. 3.1 = material; RT = weld integrity.

Q5: 100% RT on nozzle weld?
A: Yes when ITP says Group 1 / fatigue / critical service. State % and accept level at PO.

Q6: Gr5 (TC4) RT different?
A: Same RT logic; ERTi-5 weld, argon both sides, colour acceptance silver/straw.

Q7: 3.2 with RT witness?
A: TPI named at PO, witnesses RT. Cannot back-build from 3.1 after shot.

Q8: Hydro test on flange only?
A: No — hydro is vessel/line scope. Flange ships with NDE + 3.1; hydro done at assembly.

Q9: RT film or digital?
A: CR/DR digital default; film on request. IQI value + technique sheet in report either way.

Q10: HS code?
A: WCO 6-digit 8108.90 base; destination sub-heading via broker.
