Titanium Fittings with EN 10204 3.1 Certificate | ASTM B363 WPT2/WPT5/WPT7, Heat-Traceable MTC

Meta Description: Titanium butt weld fittings with EN 10204 3.1 certificate — ASTM B363 WPT2/WPT5/WPT7, ASME B16.9, measured chemistry + tensile, heat-to-ingot traceability, PMI on request. 3.1 signed by manufacturer's independent QA; 3.2 PO-fronted.

What EN 10204 3.1 Actually Certifies

EN 10204 Type 3.1 is an Inspection Certificate, not a brochure. For Titanium Fittings it means:

  • Specific test results from the actual heat/lot shipped — not generic/typical values
  • Chemistry measured (O/H/N/C + Fe, +Al/V for Gr5, +Pd for Gr7)
  • Mechanical properties per ASTM B363 grade baseline (UTS/YS/elongation)
  • Signed by the manufacturer's authorised inspection representative independent of the production department
  • Heat number on the cert = heat number etched on the fitting tag

3.1 answers the auditor's only real question: "Can you prove this exact piece came from this exact melt?" — Yes, via heat linkage.

3.1 vs 3.2 (so the PO is never wrong)

Type Who validates When to specify
2.2 Manufacturer, non-specific batch data Not for pressure piping — breaks heat traceability
3.1 Maker's independent QA/inspection rep Default for chemical, SWRO, desal, power, EPC
3.2 3.1 + third-party / purchaser inspector (SGS/BV/TÜV/DNV/LR) PED, nuclear, offshore, sour service, class-submission

Key rule: 3.2 must be named at PO stage — TPI witnesses testing. Cannot be retro-built from a 3.1 after shipment.

What Our 3.1 MTC Contains

  • Manufacturer name + works + cert No. + date
  • PO/Item ref, grade (WPTx), ASTM B363 / ASME SB363
  • NPS×SCH, fitting type, qty, delivery condition (annealed)
  • Heat No. + ingot linkage
  • Chemical analysis vs spec limits (interstitials measured)
  • Tensile: UTS / YS / Elongation
  • Dimensional + visual inspection statement
  • NDE (PT/UT/ET/RT) results where PO-required
  • Signature of independent inspection representative

Traceability Chain (the part most suppliers skip)

  1. Mother pipe/blank → heat No. from ingot
  2. Forming + anneal → heat No. carried by stamp/etch
  3. Cut/bevel → re-tag "CUT FROM HEAT XXX" (no new heat invented)
  4. MTC 3.1 appends parent heat; cut piece No. cross-linked
  5. Physical tag heat = MTC heat = CI/PL heat (three-way match)

If those three don't match, the cert is paper. We match before seal.

Cut Fittings & 3.1 — No Cert Downgrade

  • Cutting is geometric, not metallurgical → parent 3.1 stays valid
  • Cert line: "Cut from heat ___ , ASTM B363 WPTx, original MTC 3.1 referenced"
  • New piece No. + dimensional report appended
  • No re-melt, no new heat number, no back-signed 3.2 from a 3.1

PMI & Grade Proof

  • XRF/PMI spot on body + cut face available
  • Gr7: Pd verified by chemistry, not by label
  • Non-magnetic check ≠ grade proof for CP Ti — chemistry is the proof
  • PMI report cross-linked to heat No.

When 3.2 Is the Right Ask

  • EU PED pressure equipment
  • Offshore / sour (NACE MR0175) / nuclear
  • Class society submission (DNV/BV/LR/ABS)
  • New supplier qualification

3.2 = PO-fronted, TPI named, witness window booked. We coordinate, we don't fake it afterward.

Companion Export Docs

  • CI + PL (heat-referenced)
  • COO on request
  • HS reference: WCO 6-digit 8108.90 base; destination sub-heading via broker
  • Process statement (cut-from-heat / annealed / pickled) for customs
  • Pre-ship photos: tag close-up + bevel cap + crate seal

FAQ — Titanium Fittings with EN 10204 3.1

Q1: Is 3.1 the same as a mill certificate?
A: MTC/MTR are the same family. EN 10204 3.1 is the inspection-certificate format most EU/EPC specs call for — heat-specific, QA-signed.

Q2: Will the heat number on the fitting match the cert?
A: Must. Tag heat = MTC heat = PL heat. That three-way match is the whole point of 3.1.

Q3: Can you issue 3.1 for cut pieces?
A: Yes — parent 3.1 appended, "cut from heat XXX" stated, no new heat invented.

Q4: 3.2 after shipment?
A: No. 3.2 needs TPI at test stage. Specify at PO; we book the inspector.

Q5: What if grade is Gr7?
A: Pd reported in chemistry. PMI + MTC chemistry together prove it — label alone doesn't.

Q6: 2.2 acceptable?
A: For non-pressure supports maybe. For B16.9 pressure piping — no, traceability breaks.

Q7: NDE included in 3.1?
A: PT default; UT/ET/RT per PO clause, results attached to the same cert pack.

Q8: Who signs?
A: Manufacturer's independent inspection/QA representative, not the shop floor.

Q9: HS code?
A: WCO base 8108.90; country sub-heading via broker. Process statement supplied.

Q10: Audit reject risk?
A: Lowest when heat-tag-cert three-way match + measured interstitials + QA signature all present. We ship that by default.
