Pure Titanium Bar Gr2 Gr4 in Stock | ASTM B348 CP-Ti Round Bar, Cut-to-Length, MTC 3.1

Meta Description: Pure titanium bar Gr2 & Gr4 in stock from Baoji — ASTM B348, annealed, Ø3–300mm rotating stock, cut-to-length, EN 10204 3.1 heat-traceable. Gr2 for form/weld/corrosion; Gr4 for higher strength at thinner wall. Quote in 24h with live heat No.

Overview — Gr2 and Gr4 Are Both "Pure", But Not Interchangeable

Commercially pure titanium is not one material — it is a family graded by interstitial content, mainly oxygen. Gr2 (O ≤ 0.25%) is the ductile workhorse. Gr4 (O ≤ 0.40%) is the strongest CP grade: same passive-film corrosion resistance, noticeably higher yield, less formability.

We keep Gr2/TA2 and Gr4/TA4 round bar in rotating stock in Baoji Titanium Valley. Annealed default, heat-traceable, cut-to-length, EN 10204 3.1. The job of this page is simple: help you pick the right CP grade before you buy — not upsell Gr4 where Gr2 is cheaper and better, and not downgrade to Gr2 where the shaft will fatigue.

Gr2 vs Gr4 — The Real Engineering Trade-off

Factor Gr2 / TA2 Gr4 / TA4
Oxygen (max) 0.25% 0.40%
UTS min (annealed) 345 MPa 550 MPa
YS min 275 MPa 483 MPa
Elongation ≥20% ≥15%
Formability Excellent — cold bend/flare/roll Fair — more springback, more power
Weldability Straightforward GTAW, no preheat Weldable, post-weld stress relief advised
Machining Easier, lower tool wear Harder (≈200–230 HV), slower feed/speed
Wall/thickness design Thicker wall, lower stress Thinner wall OK at same pressure
Cost Lower Modest premium for strength

Mechanism in one line: more interstitial oxygen = lattice strain = dislocations blocked = higher strength, lower ductility. That is the whole Gr2→Gr4 story — no alloying, just purity tuned for duty.

When to Use Gr2 (Do Not Over-Specify)

  • Chemical tanks, piping, shells, tube sheets (rolling tubes in place)
  • Seawater/desalination low-to-mid pressure, chloride service <80°C
  • Welded assemblies where ductility of HAZ matters
  • Bent/flared fittings, bellows, thin-wall fabrications
  • Surgical instruments, fixtures, non-implant precision parts
  • Budget-sensitive corrosion jobs with low design stress

When Gr4 Earns Its Premium

  • Seawater pump shafts, agitator shafts, mixer spindles (higher yield, cavitation/erosion margin)
  • High-velocity brine or slurry service
  • Pressure vessels / reactor internals where thinner wall saves weight
  • Orthopedic-trauma blanks (industrial blank only — implant needs F67/F136 chain, see compliance)
  • Fasteners needing CP purity + near-alloy strength without Gr5 cost
  • High-cycle fatigue parts where yield headroom beats formability

Rule of thumb: if design stress stays under ~250–280 MPa and you must form/weld — Gr2. If stress pushes 350 MPa+ or wall thickness is constrained — Gr4.

Stock Scope (Honest)

Form Grade Size Condition Status
Round bar Gr2 / TA2 Ø3–300mm; Ø10/16/20/25/30/40/50 common Annealed (M) Hot rotating stock
Round bar Gr4 / TA4 Ø6–150mm common; larger project Annealed Core sizes on hand; large dia heat-confirm
Hex / flat Gr2 / Gr4 Per enquiry Peeled / drawn Project stock
Length 100–6000mm; cut-to-length standard Same-week on in-stock dia.

Honest line: Gr2 moves faster across more diameters. Gr4 core sizes (Ø10–80mm) rotate; exotic dia/long-length confirmed against physical coil/ingot before PI.

Tolerance & Straightness (Machining-Ready)

Item Supply
Diameter tol h11 default; h9/h7 TGP on request (ISO 286 + ASTM B348)
Straightness ≤0.5–1.0mm/m cold-drawn; peeled bar per size
Length tol ±0.5–1.5mm saw; facing quoted separate
Ends Square sawn / deburr / chamfer 30–45°
Surface Black / pickled / peeled / TGP / bright-drawn (Ra 0.4µm on request)

Chemistry (ASTM B348 Ref.)

Element Gr2 max Gr4 max
N 0.03% 0.05%
C 0.08% 0.08%
H 0.015% 0.015%
Fe 0.30% 0.50%
O 0.25% 0.40%
Ti Balance Balance

Mechanical Floor (Annealed, ASTM B348)

Grade UTS min YS min Elong Density
Gr2 345 MPa 275 MPa ≥20% 4.51 g/cm³
Gr4 550 MPa 483 MPa ≥15% 4.51 g/cm³

Values are standard minima, not promised lot averages. Actual MTC carries measured tensile + chemistry per heat.

Corrosion Reality (No Myth-Making)

  • Both resist seawater/Cl⁻ far better than 316L; passive TiO₂ film does the work
  • Gr2: slightly better CCT/CPT in hot chloride, better for aggressive reducing acid + cold forming
  • Gr4: near-equivalent general corrosion, better strength in high-velocity brine / cavitating pump service
  • Reducing acids (HCl, hot H₂SO₄ >10%): titanium is not universal — request immersion test before spec
  • HF, dry chlorine, fuming nitric: forbidden zones for untreated CP-Ti

Traceability & Inspection

  • One parent heat → all cut pieces carry same heat No.
  • EN 10204 3.1, mill-authorized IR, chemistry + tensile on MTC
  • UT per PO (AA/A/B level per AMS 2631/2154 advisory or ASTM E2375)
  • 3.2 (SGS/BV/TÜV) witness PO-fronted, not back-signed
  • Tag = MTC = crate label; no carbon-steel contact in pack

Cutting & Export Packaging

  • Band-saw + coolant, no heat tint
  • Deburr / chamfer for lathe loading
  • VCI paper + PE sleeve + ISPM-15 plywood crate + desiccant for long-sea
  • Mixed dia separated by EPE, per-piece tag, heat No. in inner pouch
  • Pre-ship photos: bundle / crate / label

FAQ — Pure Titanium Bar Gr2 Gr4 in Stock

Q1: Is Gr4 "better" than Gr2?
A: Stronger, not better. Gr4 wins on yield/stress; Gr2 wins on form/weld/cost. Pick by duty, not by grade number.

Q2: Can Gr4 replace Gr2 directly in a welded tank?
A: Only if the design re-rates wall/thickness and welding procedure qualifies Gr4 (post-weld stress relief 550–650°C advised). Don't swap blindly — ductility margin shrinks.

Q3: Is stock really "in stock"?
A: Core diameters reserved on PO after live heat check. We confirm physical stock before PI — no ghost shelf.

Q4: h7 ground bar available?
A: Yes on request for Swiss-lathe feed; lead longer than h11 peeled. State RA target if mirror finish needed.

Q5: Medical implant grade?
A: Industrial Gr2/Gr4 ≠ implant. Implant path = ASTM F67/F136, ELI chain, separate PO, DMR docs.

Q6: Gr4 machining tips?
A: 40–60 m/min, carbide/coated tool, high-pressure coolant, avoid work-hardening. Tool life ~60–70% of Gr2.

Q7: MTC with real numbers?
A: Yes — 3.1 carries measured UTS/YS/elongation + chemistry, not just standard minima.

Q8: Seawater pump shaft — which grade?
A: Gr4 for high-speed/cavitating shafts; Gr2 if budget + lower stress. Both corrosion-OK below ~80°C chloride.

Q9: Dispatch?
A: In-stock dia + PO before 3PM China time → same-week cut/dispatch. Air for line-down, FCL sea for bulk.

Q10: Small MOQ?
A: Stock grades accept cut lots from small kg/qty. Custom dia = mill-run MOQ, stated upfront.
