Overview — Gr5 Is Not "Pure Titanium with Extra Letters"

Gr5 (UNS R56400, 国标 TC4, Ti-6Al-4V) is the workhorse α+β titanium alloy — not CP Ti. It carries ~895 MPa tensile in annealed condition, roughly 2.5× Gr2's strength at 4.43 g/cm³. That strength is why it shows up in landing-gear components, fasteners, marine shafts, medical instruments and CNC blanks.

But the trap isn't machining — it's the standard callout. A procurement officer writing "Gr5 bar" without naming B348 / AMS 4928 / F136 / F1472 will get a cert that QA rejects. We confirm the standard before cutting, not after.

Which Standard — Pick Before PO

Rule: B348 = industrial default. Aerospace = AMS 4928 (annealed) or AMS 4965 (STA). Implant = F136/F1472 + ELI route. Don't let a vendor "upgrade" silently — each has its own cert lineage.
