• Hot concentrated brine >~80°C crevice → Gr7 or Gr12
• Reducing acid excursion → Gr7 (Pd)
• High-strength requirement → Gr5 (matched WPS, not corrosion-default)
• HF / dry chlorine / red fuming nitric → titanium excluded
