Titanium sheet, strip & plate · ASTM B265 · all grades
ASTM B265 is the base specification for titanium and titanium-alloy strip, sheet and plate. SXQYTD stocks the grades buyers actually order — Gr1–Gr4, Gr5, Gr7, Gr9, Gr11, Gr12 and Gr23 — and cuts to size with mill test certificate and PMI. Below is the procurement detail that decides grade, form and thickness before you issue a PO.
| Material | Gr1–4, Gr5, Gr7, Gr9, Gr11, Gr12, Gr23 | Principle | Self-healing TiO₂ film, chloride-proof |
| Form & stock | Strip / sheet / plate, 0.3–100 mm | Industry | Chemical, aerospace, medical, marine |
| Standard | ASTM B265 / ASME SB-265 | Lead time | 1–3 days stock; 3–7 days cut |
By form, B265 covers three flat products: strip (narrow-width coiled flat), sheet (flat, at or below 4.76 mm / 3/16 in) and plate (flat, at or above 4.76 mm). Same alloy, different thickness, tolerance and rolling route. By grade, the spec lists the full family — the four commercial-purity grades Gr1–Gr4, the palladium grades Gr7 and Gr11, the Mo/Ni grade Gr12, the alloy grades Gr5 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Gr9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V), and the ELI grade Gr23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI). Each grade has its own chemistry and mechanicals in the same table.
Pick the grade by what the part must do, not by habit:
| Grade | Key property | Typical use |
| Gr1 | Highest ductility | Deep-formed, thin parts. |
| Gr2 | Best balance | General corrosion service. |
| Gr3 / Gr4 | Higher CP strength | Light structural. |
| Gr5 / Gr23 | High strength (ELI for med/aero) | Aerospace, medical implants. |
| Gr7 / Gr11 | Pd — reducing-acid resistance | Reducing acid duty. |
| Gr9 | Strength + formability | Tubes, sports, structural. |
| Gr12 | Mo/Ni — low-cost acid grade | Reducing acid, cheaper than Gr7. |
Three limits to keep in mind: (1) above ~315°C titanium absorbs oxygen and embrittles, so B265 grades are low/medium-temperature materials; (2) titanium has poor anti-galling behaviour, so bolted joints and sliding fits need lubrication or separation; and (3) fatigue is notch-sensitive — avoid sharp corners. We flag these on the drawing review rather than after delivery.
1) Titanium sponge + alloy → triple VAR melting → 2) Forging to slab → 3) Hot rolling (plate / thick sheet) → 4) Cold rolling to gauge (sheet / strip) → 5) Vacuum annealing → 6) Pickling / descaling → 7) Leveling and straightening → 8) Shearing / slitting to size → 9) PMI and inspection → 10) Export packing. The cold-rolled route gives sheet and strip their tight tolerance and clean surface.
| Item | Representative value | Note |
| Density | 4.51 g/cm³ | ~60 % of steel weight. |
| Tensile (Gr2 / Gr5 / Gr12) | ≥ 345 / 895 / 483 MPa | Per B265 grade. |
| Yield (Gr2 / Gr5 / Gr12) | ≥ 275 / 828 / 345 MPa | Alloy grades far stronger. |
| Thickness tolerance | Per B265 (tight for cold-rolled) | Sheet/strip tighter than plate. |
| Surface | Pickled / descaled, no α-case | PT-grade on request. |
| Industry | Grade | Use |
| Chemical / process | Gr2 / Gr7 / Gr12 | Linings, trays, tube sheets. |
| Aerospace | Gr5 / Gr23 | Structural, airframe parts. |
| Medical / device | Gr23 / Gr2 | Implants, instruments. |
| Marine / desalination | Gr2 | Seawater service. |
| Heat exchanger | Gr2 | Tube sheets, baffles. |
By property: maximum formability → Gr1; balance → Gr2; higher strength → Gr3/Gr4; high strength → Gr5/Gr23; reducing acid → Gr7/Gr12 (Gr12 cheaper); tube/structural → Gr9. By form: strip for stamped/formed parts, sheet for general fabrication, plate for structural blocks — the 4.76 mm line in B265 decides sheet vs plate. Send medium, temperature, thickness and quantity; we confirm grade and cut in one reply.
| Item | Commitment |
| Lead time | 1–3 days from stock; 3–7 days cut to size. |
| Test reports | MTC 3.1, PMI, dimensional, surface report. |
| Warranty | 12 months against material and workmanship defects from shipment. |
Yes. B265 covers strip, sheet and plate in the same grades. Strip is the narrow-width coiled form used for stamping and forming; sheet is flat and ≤ 4.76 mm; plate is flat and ≥ 4.76 mm. All three carry the same grade chemistry and mechanicals.
Use Grade 7 (Pd) or Grade 12 (Mo/Ni). Grade 12 gives near-equal corrosion resistance in most reducing acids at roughly 30–40 % lower cost because it carries no palladium — pick Gr12 unless the spec mandates Gr7. Plain Gr2 would be attacked.
ASTM B265 sets it at 4.76 mm (3/16 in). At or below is sheet (cold-rolled, tight tolerance); at or above is plate (hot-rolled). For formed or thin parts use sheet; for structural blocks use plate.
Send the grade, form (strip / sheet / plate), thickness, dimensions and quantity. We return grade confirmation, cut method and a stock-backed price within 8 hours.
