Product Description: ASME-certified titanium tube bundle heat exchangers — ASTM B338 Gr2/Gr7/Gr9/Gr12 U-bundles and straight bundles. ASME BPVC Section VIII Div.1 + TEMA, hydraulic roll + orbital TIG welded tubesheet join
Meta Description: ASME-certified titanium tube bundle heat exchangers — ASTM B338 Gr2/Gr7/Gr9/Gr12 U-bundles and straight bundles. ASME BPVC Section VIII Div.1 + TEMA, hydraulic roll + orbital TIG welded tubesheet joints, 100% ET/hydro, PMI per heat, EN 10204 3.1, 3.2 TPI PO-fronted. Grade matched to duty, not to price.
ASME certification covers how the bundle is designed and built — calculation, welding, NDE, stamp. It does not decide whether your bundle should be Gr2, Gr7 or Gr12.
That decision belongs to the process stream:
A stamped bundle with the wrong grade is still a failure. We separate the code question from the metallurgy question — and answer both.
| Scope | What the customer receives |
|---|---|
| Design & calc | ASME BPVC Section VIII Div.1 pressure calculation + TEMA Class R/C/B thermal/mechanical design |
| Materials | ASTM B338 tubes, B265 tubesheet/plates, B861 fittings — all heat-traceable |
| Welding | WPS/PQR qualified to ASME IX; orbital TIG, argon backing ≥99.999% |
| Tube-to-tubesheet | Hydraulic roll + seal weld; PT on critical welds |
| NDE | Eddy current or hydro per B338 election; PT on U-bends and welds |
| Pressure test | Hydrostatic per ASME VIII; pneumatic only by written procedure |
| Documentation | Calc pkg, TEMA sheet, weld map, MTC 3.1, NDE reports, heat-traceability dossier |
ASME is the manufacturing discipline. The alloy choice is a separate engineering decision that must be stated on the PO.
| Service | Tube grade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Seawater cooling, aerated brine | Gr2 | Passive in neutral/oxidizing chloride; cost-effective |
| Lithium/salt evaporator, hot crevice | Gr7 | Pd shifts potential into passive region; resists hot deaerated chloride |
| Acid wash / impurity removal (HCl/H₂SO₄) | Gr7 or Gr12 | Gr7 for reducing acid; Gr12 for hot-brine strength |
| High-pressure U-bundle, weight-sensitive | Gr9 | ~20-50% higher strength than Gr2, thinner wall |
| Tight-radius forming | Gr1 (optional) | Maximum ductility for severe bends |
| Parameter | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Tube standard | ASTM B338 Gr1/Gr2/Gr7/Gr9/Gr12 (seamless or welded + annealed) |
| OD | 12.7 / 15.9 / 19.1 / 25.4mm; up to 38mm+ |
| Wall | 0.7–2.5mm (B338 tight tolerance) |
| Length | 3–12m straight; U-bundle to drawing |
| Pattern | Straight, U-tube, fixed tubesheet, floating head (bundle only) |
| Pitch | 1.25×OD typical; confirmed by thermal design |
| Surface | Pickled, bright annealed, or passivated; no Fe contamination |

Q1: Does ASME certification mean the bundle is corrosion-proof?
A: No. ASME certifies the design and fabrication. Corrosion resistance comes from choosing the right grade for the actual stream. Both must be specified.
Q2: Gr2 or Gr7 for my brine service?
A: Aerated, oxidizing brine → Gr2. Boiling, concentrated, crevice-heavy or acid-wash segments → Gr7. We recommend per segment, not per price.
Q3: Seamless or welded tube?
A: Both are B338-valid. Welded + annealed is cost-effective for most bundles; seamless when the PO mandates it or for high-vibration duty.
Q4: Can you replace an existing bundle?
A: Yes — from drawing or sample bundle. We match or upgrade the grade with written justification.
Q5: What does 3.1 MTC actually contain?
A: Heat-specific chemistry, tensile results, test results per B338, QA-independent signature, and heat number cross-linked to every tube tag.
Q6: How is wall thinning at U-bends controlled?
A: Mandrel bending, PT on every bend, ultrasonic or pin-gauge wall check at extrados, replacement if below minimum calculated wall.
Q7: What about fluoride in the brine?
A: Titanium is excluded where HF or free fluoride contacts the surface. Alternative alloys or lined construction must be reviewed case by case.
Q8: Lead time for a replacement bundle?
A: Stock tubes can be bundled in days; custom wall, grade or U-bend geometry gets a firm production slot — never a fake "24h" promise.
Q9: HS code?
A: Bare tube bundle and complete exchanger follow different headings; Broker confirms by configuration and destination.
Q10: Biggest procurement mistake?
A: Writing "titanium tube bundle, ASME" on the PO with no UNS, no service chemistry and no temperature. That buys a certified bundle for the wrong stream — and ASME cannot be held responsible for that.
