PN10/PN16 vs ASME B16.5 — Read This First

These are two different drilling worlds. Same nominal size does NOT mean they bolt together:

Rule: State the standard on every line item — "DN100 PN16" and "NPS4 Class150" are NOT the same flange. Forcing them = angled bolts, uneven gasket compression, micro-leak.

Grade Identity (write all on tag)

• Gr2 = ASTM B381 F-2 = WPT2 = UNS R50400 = W.-Nr. 3.7035
• Gr5 (TC4) = F-5 / R56400; Gr7 = F-7 (Pd); Gr12 = F-12
• Chemistry confirms grade — not the abbreviation

How We Avoid the "Looks Right" Trap

1. RFQ must name: standard + PN/Class + DN/NPS + face + drill pattern
2. Drawing or PCD table confirmed before CNC drill
3. Bolt circle (PCD), hole Ø, hole count, RF height — all machined to the named standard
4. Tag prints BOTH where dual-cert: "EN 1092-1 PN16 / B16.5 Class150 — machined to PN16 drill" (only one drill exists; never imply interchange)
5. Sample gauge check on PCD before pack

Pressure Rating — Not a 1:1 Swap

• PN16 @ 20°C ≈ 16 bar reference; derates with T per EN 13445 curves
• Class 150 @ 38°C ≈ 19.6 bar for carbon steel reference; titanium derates differently
• Do NOT equate "PN16 = Class150" — only true as rough pressure ballpark, never as a bolt-up
• Working pressure = f(material, T, standard curve) — we supply cert + interstitials, engineer confirms rating

Forging & Inspection

• Closed-die forge (B381), anneal, CNC drill to standard
• UT on forging, PT on face, PMI grade verify
• Dimensional: OD / PCD / bore / hub taper / RF height per named standard
• EN 10204 3.1: measured O/H/N/C/Fe + tensile, heat-to-ingot, QA-signed
• 3.2 (SGS/BV/TÜV/DNV) PO-fronted

Where These Go

• EU EPC lines, desalination (EN drill), exchanger nozzles
• Retrofit into existing DIN/EN plant — must match legacy PCD

Q1: Can one flange serve both PN16 and Class150?
A: No — different PCD, OD, RF height. We machine to ONE standard; dual-cert paper only if drill matches.

Q2: PN10 and PN16 interchangeable?
A: Up to DN150 same hole pattern; diverge at DN200 (PN16 adds bolts). Confirm before reuse.

Q3: Which face default?
A: RF both standards, but RF height differs (1.6mm B16.5 vs ~2mm EN Type B) — machined to spec.

Q4: Gr2 enough for PN16 seawater?
A: Ambient–moderate T yes. Hot crevice brine → Gr7/Gr12 review.

Q5: Large bore EN flange?
A: DN200+ PN16 forged to PO, drill per EN1092-1, RT per PO.

Q6: Class 150 = 150 psi?
A: No. Class is dimensionless; actual rating by material+T. Never field-equate to PN.

Q7: Adaptor ring instead of wrong drill?
A: Engineer-specified solution; we supply correct flange both sides, not forced bolt-up.

Q8: MTC real values?
A: 3.1, measured interstitials + tensile, heat-to-ingot, QA sign-off.

Q9: 3.2 possible?
A: TPI at PO stage; cannot be back-built from 3.1.

Q10: HS code?
A: WCO 6-digit 8108.90 base; destination sub-heading via broker.
