Product Overview

Titanium Butt Weld Fittings Cut to Spec | ASTM B363 WPT2/WPT5, ASME B16.9, Re-Beveled, Same Heat MTC 3.1

Meta Description: Titanium butt weld fittings cut to spec from Baoji — ASTM B363 WPT2/WPT5, ASME B16.9 geometry, custom center-to-face / tangent length / stub length, CNC cut, re-bevel 37.5°, pickled, same heat/lot, EN 10204 3.1 reading "cut from heat XXX". Drawings reviewed before quote.

Overview — "Cut to Spec" Means Drawing-Controlled, Not Shelf-Grab

Standard B16.9 fittings have fixed center-to-face dimensions. "Cut to spec" is for the jobs that don't:

  • Skid piping with tight tangent lengths between welds
  • Retrofit into old titanium lines where center-to-face must match field measurement
  • Pre-cut elbow legs for orbital weld (no on-site grinding)
  • Stub end trimmed to lap-joint flange stack height
  • Non-standard LR/SR radius, off-angle (60°/120°) elbow from standard blank
  • Reducer with custom tangent on big/small end

We cut from qualified annealed B363 stock — not scrap, not re-melt. Metallurgy unchanged; only geometry trims.

What "Cut to Spec" Covers

Item Customisable
Elbow Center-to-face A/B, tangent leg length, angle (45/60/90/120/180), LR/SR radius
Tee Run length, branch standout, outlet tangent, equal/reducing
Reducer Large/small end tangent, conc/ecc, flat-side orientation
Stub end Overall length to flange stack, Type A/B, backing ring yes/no
Cap Skirt length, bevel redo

Non-standard radius or branch geometry → reviewed against wall-thinning rule (B16.9 tolerance band) before PI.

Cut Process (No Guesswork)

  1. Drawing / sketch + NPS×SCH + grade received
  2. Confirm base blank: WPT2/WPT5 seamless/welded, heat No. locked
  3. CNC band-saw / waterjet cut (iron-free fixture, no carbon contamination)
  4. Re-machine bevel 37.5°±2.5° (not hand-ground)
  5. Deburr + pickled descale on cut face + passivation look
  6. Re-tag: WPT grade + ASTM B363 + "CUT FROM HEAT XXX" + new piece No.
  7. Vacuum pack / bevel cap / desiccant

Cutting does not change chemistry, grain, or alpha-case status — annealing already done on parent blank.

Center-to-Face Tolerance (quoted, not assumed)

NPS B16.9 nominal C/F (90LR) Cut-length tolerance (quoted per PO)
1"–2" 38–76mm band ±0.5–1.0mm typical, stated before PI
3"–4" 114–152mm band ±1.0–1.5mm, drawing-driven
6"+ project drawing ±1.5–2.0mm, weld-fit review

We state the number in the quote. No "exact to micron on every size" claim — titanium spring-back and saw kerf are real.

Grade & Standard Identity

  • WPT2 (Gr2) / WPT5 (Gr5 TC4) default; WPT7/WPT12 PO-named
  • ASTM B363 / ASME SB363 material; ASME B16.9 geometry
  • MSS SP-43 for light-wall stub end
  • Cert line: "Cut from heat ___ , ASTM B363 WPTx, original MTC 3.1 referenced"

Traceability After Cutting

  • Parent heat No. carried to cut piece tag
  • Original 3.1 MTC appended; new piece No. cross-linked
  • No new heat number invented (cut ≠ melt)
  • 3.2 (SGS/BV/TÜV) witness PO-fronted on parent lot
  • PMI spot on cut face available

Surface & Bevel Discipline

  • Pickled cut face + original body pickle
  • Bevel 37.5°, plastic cap, argon-clean ends
  • No steel brush, no carbon marker
  • Site weld still needs back-purge Ar; cut piece ships clean, not "pre-welded"

When Cut-to-Spec Is Right (vs New Mold)

Case Route
Tangent/leg length trim Cut + re-bevel (fast, same heat)
Off-angle 60°/120° elbow Cut from 90LR blank, reviewed
Stub end to flange stack Cut + re-bevel
Full new radius / non-B16.9 profile Re-form or fabricated fitting, new PO (not "cut")
Branch tee non-standard outlet Hydraulic-form / fabricated, WPS+RT per PO

Honest line: cutting fixes length/angle; it does not recreate a non-standard wrought profile. We tell you which bucket before PI.

Inspection on Cut Piece

  • OD / wall / ovality at cut section
  • Bevel angle + squareness + tangent length
  • Visual PT on cut face (no crack/burr)
  • Heat tag vs parent MTC cross-check
  • Dimensional report issued per piece on request

Export Packaging & Docs

  • ISPM-15 case, bubble wrap, bevel cap, desiccant
  • Label: "CUT FROM HEAT XXX / WPTx / NPS×SCH / PO line"
  • Bundle: CI + PL + parent MTC 3.1 + cut dimensional report + COO
  • HS reference: WCO 8108.90 base; local sub-heading via broker, process statement supplied

FAQ — Titanium Butt Weld Fittings Cut to Spec

Q1: Does cutting create a new heat number?
A: No. Cut piece keeps parent heat. MTC reads "cut from heat XXX" — cutting is geometric, not metallurgical.

Q2: Can you hit exact center-to-face?
A: Within quoted tolerance per NPS (±0.5–2.0mm band). Final figure stated in quote, not assumed.

Q3: Bevel re-done after cut?
A: Yes — machined 37.5°±2.5°, not hand-file. Pickled cut face, capped end.

Q4: 60° or 120° elbow from stock?
A: Cut from 90LR blank after geometry review; wall-thinning at intrados checked vs B16.9.

Q5: Same MTC as full fitting?
A: Parent 3.1 appended + cut dimensional report. No new chemistry test needed (same heat).

Q6: Non-standard radius (not LR/SR)?
A: Re-formed/fabricated route, separate PO. We don't pretend a cut changes radius profile.

Q7: Welded fittings cut?
A: Yes, seam location marked, PT on seam, RT per original PO scope carried over.

Q8: Lead time?
A: Qualified heat + drawing confirm → cut/pack same working week. New-form non-standard → schedule quoted upfront.

Q9: Mix cut + standard fittings in one crate?
A: Yes, each piece tagged, one cert pouch, one PL/CI.

Q10: HS code?
A: WCO 8108.90 base; country sub-heading via broker. Process statement (cut/from heat) supplied for customs.
