Product Description: Gr2 (WPT2) titanium fittings for chemical piping — ASTM B363 + ASME B16.9, elbow/tee/reducer/stub end, SCH5S–40S, pickled, argon-clean bevel, EN 10204 3.1 with measured interstitials. For wet chlorine
Meta Description: Gr2 (WPT2) Titanium Fittings for chemical piping — ASTM B363 + ASME B16.9, elbow/tee/reducer/stub end, SCH5S–40S, pickled, argon-clean bevel, EN 10204 3.1 with measured interstitials. For wet chlorine, nitrate, seawater cooling, chlor-alkali, desalination.
Commercially pure Titanium Gr2 (ASTM B363 WPT2) sits at the sweet spot: better strength than Gr1, better formability than Gr3, and the same passive oxide film that shrugs off chloride attack. In most oxidizing/neutral chemical services, Gr2 needs no corrosion allowance — the design wall is the service wall.

| Material | WPT2 per ASTM B363 / ASME SB363 |
| Dimension | ASME B16.9 (butt-weld), MSS SP-43 for stub end light-wall |
| Grade alias | Gr2 / UNS R50400 / Werkstoff 3.7035 |
| Wall | SCH 5S / 10S / 40S (B36.19M) |
"Gr2 B363" is fine in conversation; the stamped mark readsWPT2 / ASTM B363 / NPS×SCH / HEAT XXX.
| Service | Gr2 verdict |
|---|---|
| Wet chlorine, NaClO, seawater, cooling water | ✅ Standard choice |
| Nitric / chromic acid (oxidizing) | ✅ Good |
| Organic acids, neutral salts | ✅ Case-by-case confirm |
| Hot brine (>80°C) + crevice stagnation | ⚠️ Review — Gr7/Gr12 often better |
| Reducing acid (HCl, dilute H₂SO₄, phosphoric) | ⚠️ Gr7 (Pd) or Gr12 upgrade |
| Hydrofluoric acid / fluoride <pH7 / F-containing gaskets | ❌ RED LINE — titanium attacked; ban HF & fluoride-release gaskets |
Rule of thumb: oxidizing chloride = Gr2; reducing chloride = Gr7/Gr12. We say so before PO, not after failure.
| Element | Gr2 / WPT2 max |
|---|---|
| O | 0.25% |
| Fe | 0.30% |
| C / N / H | 0.08 / 0.03 / 0.015% |
| UTS / YS / Elong | 345 / 275 MPa / ≥20% |
MTC = EN 10204 3.1, heat-to-ingot, measured values (not minima-only).
| Upgrade | Trigger |
|---|---|
| Gr7 (WPT7) | Crevice stagnation, hot reducing chloride, HCl traces |
| Gr12 (WPT12) | Hot brine, higher strength + crevice resistance, desalination headers |
| Gr5 (WPT5) | High hoop / weight-critical skids, not a corrosion upgrade |
Gr2→Gr7 is a corrosion decision, not a "better metal" brag. We route by media, not margin.

Q1: Can Gr2 handle hydrochloric acid?
A: Dilute/reducing HCl is a Gr7 (Pd) case. Gr2 fits oxidizing chloride (wet Cl₂, seawater, hypochlorite), not reducing HCl — we flag this pre-PO.
Q2: Why not always Gr7?
A: Gr7 costs more and isn't needed in oxidizing service. Gr2 + correct argon weld = 15+ yr life in seawater/chlor-alkali.
Q3: SCH10S enough for chemical line?
A: Often yes — no corrosion allowance. Wall chosen by pressure/temp per B36.19M, not by rust buffer.
Q4: HF really banned?
A: Yes. Any fluoride <pH7 attacks titanium fast. No HF cleaning on site; gaskets must not release F on heat.
Q5: Pickled vs bright for chemical service?
A: Pickled default — removes alpha-case/scale, best for weld purge. Bright for visual/pharma; corrosion equal if clean.
Q6: MTC real numbers?
A: Measured O/Fe/H/N/C + tensile, heat-to-ingot, EN 10204 3.1.
Q7: Stub end with lap joint flange?
A: Yes — stub end WPT2, flange F2 per B381; isolate galvanic contact from CS/SS with gasket spacer.
Q8: Max service temp?
A: ~425°C continuous (800°F); above that oxide film degrades — design review needed.
Q9: Large bore 16"+?
A: Welded/fabricated, project heat, WPS+RT per PO. No ghost shelf on big sizes.
Q10: Dispatch?
A: Seamless NPS1/2–4 qualified heats → same working week after lot confirm; welded large-bore → PI-date commit.
