Titanium Flanges Guide: ASME B16.5 Weld Neck, Slip-On, Blind and Lap Joint — Grades, Classes and Stock

A flange is the interface between your titanium piping system and the rest of the plant. If the bore, face finish or bolt circle is wrong, nothing mates up. This guide explains how to specify Titanium Flanges correctly and what we hold in finished stock for immediate dispatch.

Flange Types Stocked and Machined

• Weld Neck (WN): Butt-welded to pipe, highest strength, used for high-pressure and high-temperature service
• Slip-On (SO): Pipe slips into the flange, easier alignment, used for lower-pressure service
• Blind: Blank flange for closing pipe ends, vessel nozzles and manways
• Lap Joint (LJ): Used with stub ends, allows frequent dismantling
• Threaded: For small-size, low-pressure, non-welded connections
• Reducing: Flange with different bore sizes
• Orifice: For flow measurement with integral tap holes

Grades and Standards

• Grades: Gr1, Gr2, Gr7, Gr12, F-2 (titanium forgings)
• Standards: ASTM B381 (forgings), ASME B16.5, B16.47, DIN/EN 1092-1 on request
• Size range: 1/2"–24" NPS
• Pressure classes: Class 150, 300, 600, 900, 1500, 2500

Face Finish and Machining Confirmation

Before machining, we confirm:

• Face type (RF — raised face, FF — flat face, RTJ — ring type joint)
• Bore diameter and tolerance
• Bolt circle diameter and bolt hole size
• Drilling pattern (ASME or DIN standard)

This prevents the most common problem with imported flanges: bolt holes that do not line up with the mating flange.
