Grade 2 titanium sheet · ASTM B265 · stock & cut to size
Grade 2 is the commercial-purity workhorse of titanium — the best balance of formability, weldability and corrosion resistance among the unalloyed grades. SXQYTD stocks Grade 2 titanium sheet to ASTM B265, sheared or laser-cut to your size, with mill test certificate and PMI verification. Below is the procurement detail that decides thickness, temper and cut before you issue a PO.
| Material | Grade 2 (UNS R50400) | Principle | Self-healing TiO₂ film resists chloride |
| Form & stock | Sheet 0.5–4.75 mm; ~400 t on hand | Industry | Chemical, marine, medical, plating |
| Standard | ASTM B265 / ASME SB-265 | Lead time | 1–2 days stock; 3–5 days cut to size |
By grade, Grade 2 (UNS R50400) is unalloyed commercial-purity titanium — the middle of the four CP grades (Gr1 softest and most formable, Gr4 strongest). It keeps good weldability and formability while adding more strength than Gr1, which is why it is the default grade for corrosion service. By form, ASTM B265 draws the line at 4.76 mm (3/16 in): material at or below that is sheet (cold-rolled for tight tolerance and clean surface), at or above it is plate (hot-rolled). Coil and strip are the same Grade 2 alloy in continuous form for stamping and forming.
Grade 2's TiO₂ film shrugs off chlorides and oxidizing acids, so it is the all-round choice where 316L pits. The selection logic:
| Medium | Recommended grade | Why |
| Seawater, brine | Gr2 | Best all-round chloride resistance. |
| Wet chlorine, hypochlorite, nitric | Gr2 | Strongly oxidizing; film stays stable. |
| Dilute HCl / H₂SO₄ with oxidizer | Gr2 | Oxidizer keeps the film alive. |
| Reducing acid, no oxidizer | Gr7 / Gr12 | Pd/Mo needed; Gr2 would be attacked. |
| Thin / deep-formed parts | Gr1 | Higher ductility for forming. |
Three limits to keep in mind: (1) above ~315°C Grade 2 absorbs oxygen and embrittles, so it is a room/low-temperature grade, not a high-heat one; (2) titanium has poor anti-galling behaviour, so threads and sliding fits need lubrication or separate nuts; and (3) fatigue is notch-sensitive — avoid sharp corners and notches in design. We flag these on the drawing review rather than after delivery.
1) Titanium sponge + additions → triple VAR melting → 2) Forging to slab → 3) Hot rolling → 4) Cold rolling to gauge → 5) Vacuum annealing → 6) Pickling / descaling → 7) Leveling and straightening → 8) Shearing or laser cut to size → 9) PMI and inspection → 10) Export packing. Grade 2 is the easiest CP grade to form — most bends are done cold at room temperature with no post-heat.
| Item | Control value | Note |
| Tensile strength | ≥ 345 MPa | Annealed, per B265. |
| Yield strength | ≥ 275 MPa | Good for light structures. |
| Elongation | ≥ 20 % | Formable cold. |
| Density | 4.51 g/cm³ | ~60 % of steel weight. |
| Thickness tolerance | Per B265 (e.g. ±0.04 mm @ 1 mm) | Cold-rolled tight. |
| Industry | Medium | Why Grade 2 |
| Chemical / process | Cl₂, seawater, acid | Linings, trays, tube sheets. |
| Marine / desalination | Seawater, brine | No pitting; light weight. |
| Electroplating | Acid bath, anodizing | 316L fails; Gr2 survives. |
| Medical / device | Body / sterile | Biocompatible, ISO 5832-2. |
| Heat exchanger | Cooling water | Baffles, tube sheets. |
By medium: oxidizing or chloride → Gr2; reducing acid without oxidizer → Gr7/Gr12; thin/deep-formed → Gr1; higher strength → Gr3/Gr4. By thickness: below 4.76 mm is sheet (cold-rolled, tight tolerance) and at/above is plate (hot-rolled) — pick sheet for formed or thin parts, plate for structural. Send medium, temperature, thickness and quantity; we confirm grade and cut in one reply.
| Item | Commitment |
| Lead time | 1–2 days from stock; 3–5 days cut to size. |
| Test reports | MTC 3.1, PMI, dimensional, surface report. |
| Warranty | 12 months against material and workmanship defects from shipment. |
Same alloy, different thickness and rolling route. ASTM B265 sets the line at 4.76 mm: at or below it is sheet (cold-rolled, tighter tolerance, cleaner surface); at or above it is plate (hot-rolled). For formed or thin parts use sheet; for structural blocks use plate.
Yes. We zero-cut (零切) from ~400 t of Gr2 stock — you buy the size and quantity you need, not a full mill coil. Send the outline or dimensions and we quote the cut piece with MTC and PMI.
If the medium is oxidizing or contains chloride (wet chlorine, hypochlorite, seawater), Grade 2 is correct and cheaper. If it is a reducing acid with no oxidizer (dilute HCl/H₂SO₄), use Grade 7 or Grade 12. Send the exact medium and we confirm the grade.
Send the medium, temperature, thickness, dimensions and quantity. We return grade, cut method and a stock-backed price within 8 hours.
